Marine Transportation
The Marine Transportation Division of Weeks Marine, Inc. is comprised of hundreds of deck, hopper and specialized barges in conjunction with a fleet of tugboats, ranging from 1,000 to 4,200 horsepower, with individual tug bollard pulls up to 68 tons. These vessels are available for both domestic and international trade, plying the waters of the East and West coasts of North and South America, inclusive of the Caribbean Sea. Weeks Marine specializes in multiple and difficult tows, bulk material movements, and all other aspects of service including complete turn-key packages for marine transportation movements. Additional services include harbor towing, emergency salvage towing, ship assists, and tending and towing for the marine construction and dredging industries.
For coastwise and ocean towing, Weeks prides itself on the condition and maintenance of our larger oceangoing tugs. These tugs are equipped with double drum tow winches, and are manned by knowledgeable crews, well experienced in multiple and specialized tows. Within the past decade, we have successfully completed hundreds of challenging and unique double and triple tows, many of which have required detailed preplanning and preparatory engineering to ensure a safe and successful voyage.
Another facet of the Marine Transportation Division is emergency salvage towing. Due to the geographic scope of all of the company’s marine related operations, our dispatch personnel are ever mindful of all internal and most external towing resource availability for emergency response. On average, our tugs respond to eight emergency salvage tows annually.
The marine construction and dredging industries often require specialized tugs and tenders to safely and efficiently operate in restricted and congested waters. Weeks Marine has provided exclusive site tug service to numerous major marine construction projects including the Boston Third Harbor Tunnel, the U.S. Navy's Homeport facility in Staten Island, the U.S. Navy’s Earle Naval Weapon Station Pier Replacement, a Container Terminal in Chesapeake, Virginia, the jetty construction and mono buoy installation for Petrozuata's Guanta, Venezuela facility, and the pier facilities and site preparation for the Sabine LNG terminal in Sabine Pass, Texas. For many years Weeks Marine has supplied superior tug and tender service to our own in-house dredging division, as well as for the remaining top four U.S. dredging companies, on a multitude of Army Corp of Engineers' and private dredging and beach replenishment projects along the East and Gulf Coasts of the United States.
In conjunction with other Weeks Marine divisions, the Marine Transportation Division offers complete turn-key service for many types of marine transportation movements. In addition to tugs and barges Weeks Marine can provide for the storage, loading, securing, off-loading, and placement of cargo (all in-house), to complete most waterborne transport requirements.
Our being selected as the sole provider for waterborne operations at the World Trade Center Recovery Project is a testament to our ability to respond to our customers needs quickly and professionally. Weeks Marine designed and constructed four temporary barge-ports; trans-loaded from trucks, tracked, transported, and delivered (on a 24/7 basis) nearly 2 million tons of steel and debris from the 9/11 World Trade Center attack to various waterfront facilities throughout New York and New Jersey, one barge load at a time, at the staggering rate of nearly 300,000 tons per month.
The Marine Transportation Division of Weeks Marine has the capability, experience, knowledge, personnel, and expertise to handle all of the facets of marine towing and transportation from a simple shift to a complex turn-key transportation movement.
