Shore Protection

Restoring eroded beaches from ocean sand sources is a specialty for Weeks Marine. The company has completed a wide range of projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and their cost-sharing partners, for local governments directly, and for private communities.

Although accessable beaches for recreation are the economic foundation for many communities, flood control and storm damage reduction is the primary justification for investment in their restoration. Higher dunes and wider beaches have prevented hundreds of millions in damages to coastal property and have also prevented sea water from intruding into brackish estuaries thatact as nurseries for fish and shellfish and provide habitat for migratory waterfowl.

Weeks Marine fortified Assateague National Seashore on Virginia’s Eastern Shore solely to protect the National Wildlife Refuge that was threatened due to coastal erosion.
